How do I take the first step toward finding a home?
Your journey with us begins with your TCRC Service Coordinator. Once they send us a referral and the assessment is authorized, we will reach out to you or your family directly to schedule a time to meet and talk about your dreams for a new home.
Who can join the Resource-Ability community?
Our services are designed for individuals of all ages—from children to adults—who are navigating life with developmental, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities. To join our community, you simply need to be a client of the Tri-Counties Regional Center (TCRC) and feel ready to participate in the housing process alongside us.
Are there any reasons why someone might not qualify?
While we strive to support as many people as possible, our program is not the right fit for individuals who require 24-hour care or those with severe behavioral or medical needs that require a higher level of supervision than an independent home can provide. Additionally, certain felony convictions related to physical or fiduciary offenses may disqualify someone from our direct housing support.
How long will it take for me to move in?
We value your time and aim to move through the process with care and efficiency. We generally complete your personalized housing evaluation within 15 days of our first meeting. Once we have your plan in place, most people we support are able to secure a stable home within approximately three to six months.
Can I receive services in Spanish?
All of our services are available in both English and Spanish.
Where do you provide support?
Our central office is located in Camarillo, which puts us right in the heart of Ventura County and close to the people we serve. While we primarily support neighbors across Ventura County, we are always willing to expand our reach into Santa Barbara County if that is where your needs take us.
What happens if I can’t afford a security deposit or monthly bills?
We know that the financial side of housing can feel overwhelming, so we work with you to find the right resources. We’ll help you connect with rental assistance, security deposit programs, and utility subsidies that lower your monthly costs and help make your home truly sustainable.
Is there a cost for these services?
There is no cost to you or your family for the housing support we provide. Our work is authorized and funded through the Tri-Counties Regional Center as part of your person-centered plan.
What if I decide the program isn’t right for me?
You are always in the driver’s seat of your own life. You and your family have the right to voluntarily exit our program at any time if your preferences or circumstances change.
Are you a landlord or a housing provider?
It is helpful to think of us as your dedicated partners rather than your landlord. While we do not own the buildings, we focus on creating sustainable living arrangements by helping you with housing searches, roommate matching, and networking with property managers to secure a placement that fits you.
What if I have a problem with my landlord after I move?
We stay by your side even after you have the keys. If you ever run into a misunderstanding with a landlord or a lease violation, we provide professional mediation and advocacy to help resolve the issue early. Our goal is to keep your housing stable and your relationships positive.
